By: Gary Paulson

“Tucket’s Gold” is the fourth book in the “Tucket’s Travels” series. This book starts out when Francis Just shot an American solider that was attacking a Mexican woman. Francis doesn’t know what to do he is shocked and in fear. So he decides that he must take the dead man’s body and explain it to the general at the Army camp in Taos. On his way there with Lottie and Billy he runs into an American military patrol, they come up to him and ask him whose dead body was on the horse.
Francis explains everything to the Sergeant, and then the patrol escorts them back to Taos. They talk to the general but he seems to be really drunk and tells the Sergeant that they all need to be hanged. The Sergeant couldn’t believe it and when the general passed out then the Sergeant set them free.

So they head up to the mountains and are going to find the Oregon Trail. It takes them many days to just get to the middle of the mountains. While they are camped Francis tells Billy to go dig a fire pit, when he starts digging he screams, Francis runs over to him thinking it was a rattlesnake. But when Francis sees what he is screaming about and is in shock…

  1. Wow, you did a really good job. I love this series and I especially love how you left that cliffhanger at the end.

  2. I'm not a great fan of cliff hangers, but there's quite a bit of detail to hint what will happen next. Nice job.
