So in the middle of the night Josh packs up supplies and leaves a note for his parents telling them good bye. He loads up his dog on a motorcycle and the cub and his supplies and he goes up into the mountains. Before Josh leaves he talks to an old friend named Otis. And Otis is an animal lover, so when josh tells Otis what is going on with the orphaned cub. Josh tells Otis that he is going to the mountains to try and save the cub.
When Josh goes to the mountain he happens to go in late fall when it is very close to winter. After a week up in the mountain Josh finds a small cave that is big enough that he can lie down and stand up in. The next morning Josh wakes up to the ground blanketed in snow and its cold very cold. The only coat Josh has is a jacket but he does have a sleeping bag.
The same day of the snowstorm Josh’s dog goes missing. A couple minutes later when josh hears a snarling growl he knows exactly what it is. It is his dog fighting with a bear, when he runs over to where he heard the growl he sees his dog laying on the ground with red blood stripes across her chest. Josh throws his coat over his dog, gets on the dirt bike, and drives to the nearest town to call Otis. When he gets a hold of Otis he tells Otis to meet him at a secluded cabin in the mountains to take the dog to a vet.
Once police get word that a man has seen Josh and has his dog they go and contact him right away. When the police talk to Otis he says he will not give up the location of Josh. When josh leaves the cabin on his motorcycle he rides until it is time to turn off to where he is camped. In the dark Josh gets side tracked and takes the wrong way and drives his motorcycle off of a 20 foot cliff. Josh is laying in agonizing pain on the ground with a broken leg, arm, and a couple of broken ribs.
After a couple of minutes laying on the ground Josh wakes up from being knocked out, he gets his bearings he crawls to a nearby creek with his one arm.
Mean time at the police station Otis tells the police where Josh was hoping he had left the area. When the search party went out looking for josh they found him by the cub. The search party loaded Josh up on a gurney and packed him and the cub out.

When Josh wakes up he is in the hospital and his mom and dad were there to greet him. The police officer that ran the whole operation met Josh and told him to come outside when he went outside the cub and his dog were waiting for him.

Growing Wings
By Laurel Winter
Linnet use to be a normal girl, but when she finds two little bumps on her shoulder blades that itch and ache she begins to wary. When her mother (Sarah McKenzie) saw her back and started to weep, she began to really wary. What’s wrong with her? Her mother turned around and started to unbutton her shirt. What Linnet saw on Sarah’s back scared her. There were two big scars right by her shoulder blades. When Linnet asked what they were her mother said “wings”.

Her mother buttoned her shirt, and left Linnet’s room. Linnet just sat their not sure what to think. After a few minutes Sarah came back with a bandage, and put it around Linnets shoulder blades then across it above her chest. Every day after that when she came home from school  her mother would take off the bandage and give her a bath. When she was done Sarah  would  re-bandaged Linnet’s back.  One time when she was out of the tub waiting for Sarah to re-bandage her back , she peeked at the mirror behind her. There were two little wings that looked like plucked chicken wings with a few small puffy fathers here and there. Not what she expected them to look like.  Growing Wings is a dramatic and fun story full of questions and answers.

The Eleventh Plague (redo)

The Eleventh Plague (redo)

By: Jeff Hirsch

This book is absolutely amazing. However, it’s not only a fiction book; it involves adventure, love, and survival. Plus, it could happen, and may happen in real life! The book appeals to anyone who likes realistic fiction, or “struggling to survive” books Which I personally find very appealing.

The book starts with a fifteen-year-old boy, Stephen Quinn, was born after a great war and only knows how to live the life of a salvager. The collapse, when everything went down, started the major problems for America, people dying, put into slavery, or worse. Stephen’s family survived but slowly died from “The Eleventh Plague,” which kills the person it infected.  After everyone in Stephen’s family died, off besides his grandpa, his dad, and himself, they stuck to the road with their wagon and mule. They will face, not only the death of a friends and a family member, but the hard choice with potential lovers, and others that will try to kill them! A big enemy the group will face is the Slavers, who take almost anyone and make them slaves for pulling wagons, farm, or even food! It will be hard, but he will learn a lot on the way, and save everyone who still remains.

The book is harsh on characters and doesn’t give much description of any thing. Although sometimes, like when Stephen and his father found a can of peaches, it is very, very, descriptive. I wouldn’t recommend this book to someone who dislikes violence or a lot of unsettling things. Even if it’s violent, and unsettling, it’s still a very good and catching book.

DEEP AND DARK AND DANGEROUS

DEEP AND DARK AND DANGEROUS
MARY DOWNING HAHN

By looking at the title you kind of have some questioning to do about the book. Where could Deep and Dark and Dangerous take place? We'll take a look at it in a second, after I tell you a little about the characters, and the plot!

This story involves a middle aged child and her little cousin are sent to their old summer house that they soon fixed up and stay in for the summer. Before all of this, this trip started from Ali, the middle aged girl finding a photo of her mother, her aunt Dulcie, and another person that's been ripped out of the photo...

When they get to the summer house Ali meets a girl named Sissy. This girl is mean, rude, and mysterious. Sissy is also hiding something, could it be within her family? And how would Sissy know?

BY READING THE REST OF THE BOOK YOU WILL FIND OUT HOW THIS BOOK ENDS UP!!!!!   * DUN DUN DUN *

Dog Tags: Prisoners of War

Dog Tags: Prisoners of War

By: C. Alexander London

Dog Tags, by C. Alexander London, is a book series about dogs, and their use in different wars. This certain Dog tags, Prisoners of War, takes place in a remote Belgian forest in the winter. As it seems, the book would spike the interest of someone that likes reading fiction war books, like myself.

Anyway, Miguel, the main character in the book, is a 16 year old American medic that was just deployed near the front lines, but not in contact with any enemies. Medics aren’t allowed to carry a weapon, FYI. While in a trench waiting for the Nazis, he meets a gunman named Goldsmith. Goldsmith keeps talking about his home, and his Jewish heritage. At first Miguel doesn’t say anything nor look at Goldsmith. However as time goes on, Miguel starts to lighten up and become friends with Goldsmith. While they’re talking they start saying things like yutz, or vato, which is Spanish. All of a sudden, artillery starts booming down to the ground, like a tornado hitting a hill of unstable C4. Nazis were attacking! Bullets whizzing by, Goldsmith stands and fires at the incoming Nazis.

Then, American soldiers start yelling, “Medic!” After that, Goldsmith says, “Hey, vato, I think they need you,” but Miguel hesitates, the other soldiers still crying out for a medic. Then Goldsmith says, “Don’t be a yutz, get to work!” Finally Miguel grabs his medic bag and runs toward the cries. He goes from trench to trench bandaging as many soldiers as he can. Later, after Miguel gets to his fourth man he realizes he is not moving, or breathing, just still. Then Miguel notices it’s the man who is supposed to be giving orders, the Sargent. “Hey, Sarge?” Miguel says, “Sarge!” He turns the still man from his position and saw that the Sargent was gone. His eyes were wide open and just above them, his skull had been torn open, the parts of destroyed brain visible were bluish-red like the morning sunrise. That’s when Miguel stopped; he couldn’t take any more of it. He fought with himself, still in the trench with the diseased Sargent. He wanted to fight, but knew he couldn’t. Suddenly another artillery shell boomed above him. A large branch of a tree landed on Miguel knocking him out, cold.

When he awoke he first noticed everyone had gone, the Nazis overran the place. He peaked up from the trench, and saw a dead Nazi soldier lying in the snow, giving off a whining sound. In a split second a dog jumped from behind the dead soldier biting, and jumping at Miguel. However, the dog stopped mid jump… he was on a leash that the Nazi had in his dead, frozen hand. Miguel then jumped out the other side of the trench, but the dog kept jumping towards him, slowly pulling his master. Luckily, the dog falls in the trench and can’t get out. Miguel then hears Nazis in the distance, so he looks through the bushes and sees the Nazis had taken his comrades prisoner. They were marching down the road, into the distant fog.

Miguel decides he can’t do this alone; he needs someone to track the Nazis, so he can free his friends and redeem himself for his foolish behaviors. He goes back to the trenches, and slowly but surely befriends the dog and names him Yutz. Now he is on his mission, with no plans, and only one way of navigation, a dog. He is going to have a really hard road, meet a rebellion, even sneak into the base disguised as a Nazi, but one goal stays the same, rescue his fellow Americans.

The book is very exciting and entertaining to read. It will, without a doubt, hold the attention of almost anyone who starts to read it.

Some people will try to stop Alex from uncovering the truth about this mystery, and very few will try to help him on his journey back to his own body. I really enjoyed this book. It made me want to keep on reading. It is full of details; plot twists and makes a reader want to keep on reading the book. I highly recommend this to anyone who wants to read a good mystery.

Si-Cology

Si-Cology
By: Silas Robertson
“Hey jack!” I bet you’ve heard this before. Si Robertson’s book Si-Cology is an autobiography about Si’s life. Si's book has five main stages in his life. For anyone who doesn’t know who Si is, he is the uncle to Willie Robertson, the main character in the T.V. show Duck dynasty. Si is also a Vietnam veteran. He is very funny and has the habit to stretch the truth. He has also become the majority of the T.V. shows viewers favorite character.
Si’s book gives stories and memories from his entire life. Si talks most about his child hood, tagging along with Phil and Tommy (Si’s older brothers) hunting squirrels, ducks and fishing. Si had many siblings, but he mainly stuck with Phil and Tommy. Si, Phil and Tommy hunted and fished every chance they got. Some times this got them in trouble; they often hunted on private property. In Fact Si’s mom went to a farmer’s house to sell baskets to the farmer’s wife. When she arrived the farmer told her that her boys had been hunting on his property. She apologized and told the farmer she would tell them to stop, but the farmer said that the boys had his full permission to hunt on his land. But he told Si’s mom not to tell the boys because he enjoyed chasing them off his land.
As a teen Si played football, but wasn’t as good as Phil who had a chance to be in the NFL. He was a semi good student, getting mainly C’s on his assignments. Si mainly stuck to fishing and hunting ducks. Si actually spent most of his time fishing. Si loved to fish and hunt squirrels.
Si never wanted to go to college, but his parents forced him to. He spent his collage day partying and hunting. He went hunting and fishing most day and partied at night. The one time Si actually tried to do well on was his last test of the season which he got a high C on. Si then dropped out and moved back in with his parents.
Quickly after Si dropped out he was drafted into the army. Si’s army years are my personal favorite. He tells of working in the sniper tower, to driving 18-wheelers, and being on guard duty. Si also got in rock fights with Vietnamese children. One day while he was sitting in a tower a rock struck him in the temple. The next day he brought a sling shot and a bucket of rocks with him and when a rock hit him he opened fired.
Last but not least Si tells about when he meets his wife. He and She were married and had two kids, Judy and Scott, who both were much like their father. Judy however was very intelligent and was even accepted to a school in England. Scott, on the other hand has autism. Scott wanted to be like his dad so his dream was to be in the army like Si, but the army doesn’t accept people with autism. Although he had problems, Scott actually recovered from theses and was accepted into the army. How he was accepted, Si doesn’t know but Scott did say to him in a letter “What they didn’t ask, I didn’t tell.”
Si’s book has hundreds of more stories than the ones listed in this review. Anyone who has a kindle or any other reading device, I highly recommend this book. It’s funny and gives the reader some background knowledge about America’s favorite uncle, Si.
