Red Badge of Courage By Stepen Crane

Red Badge of Courage

By Stephen Crane

This book takes place during the Civil War. There is a man named Henry, he always wanted to be a hero. Henry wanted to enlist several times but his mother discouraged not to, because she said she needs more help on the farm instead on the battlefield.

Henry hears about moving into battle tomorrow. He hears the news from his tent roommate, he is a big tall man named Jim. Henry thinks Jim knows everything around the world, but this is the eighth time they moved in two weeks without a single action. Jim and a loud soldier named Wilson were in a fight as they walked into Henry’s tent. As Henry started to pack his items into his knapsack he asked Jim if was going to be a real Battle. Jim said oh yes it is going to be one of the biggest battles ever.

The next morning he found out that Jim was wrong. Other soldiers made fun of Jim and he even got into a fist fight. Wilson got into a fight to. After the wrong day came the other day came and move to a bridge. The next morning the battle begins, before the battle started Wilson handed Henry an envelope. He said give to my parents, I have a feeling I won’t make it. The thundering sounds of the cannon made Henry’s ears ring. The only thing that going through his head is will he stand and fight? Or will run away?

  1. I love historical fiction, Logan! It's a great way to learn history, without the burden of a text book ;)
