The magic thief: lost

book review #3

Connwaer, a wizard of about thirteen or fourteen, had recently lost something all wizards needed in order to preform magic: his locus majicalicus (pronounced: maj-ic-a-li-shus). These objects could be anything, ranging from pebbles on the road to extremely rare jewels.  Conn’s locus majicalicus had been the main part of the head duchess’s necklace, an emerald in the form of a leaf. But it had been destroyed in his last adventure.

Lately, the magic had been acting strangely, as if it was afraid of something. Because Conn didn't have his stone, he couldn't communicate with the magic, so he had resorted to pyrotechnics, or making controlled explosions. This enabled him to communicate with the magic. Unfortunately, he didn't realize the magic wanted him to go to desh, a town where its magic was acting strangely too. Connwaer didn't understand what he was supposed to do until the magic made a big explosion that destroyed his home. He got the message finally and snuck from town with a traveling party headed to desh.

There he finds out that there is an evil magic inhibiting the leader of the town, Jaggus.  Jaggus locks up Connwaer in a room in an attempt to make the magic inhibit Conn too. But Conn sneaks out and finds jaggus’s workroom, the place that Jaggus keeps his locus majicalicus.

Jaggus’s stone had a rotten, gooey looking center. Jaggus bursts in to find his stone in Conn's hand. Then con crushes it in his hand with ease. Jaggus is enraged, and I the belief that he still has his magic, jumps out the window in the hopes that the magic will enable him to fly. But he falls to his death. Everybody is glad and life returns to normal in desh.
