The book Petey is about a young boy who is unable to take care of himself. He was born in
Bozeman Montana to a small ranch family. Once the doctor told the mother Sarah Corbin that her
son was born with issues he suggested that she gave him to an institution. When she first heard this
she was unwilling to give her son up. After a few years went by it was becoming more difficult to
take care of Petey so Sarah and her husband did the only thing they could and that was to send him
to the institution.
One of the institutes nurses came to get Petey and they traveled the long train ride to warm
springs Montana. Once they got there the nurse starts to take care of Petey. while he grows it
becomes more difficult to clean him and lift him.
As Petey became older he started to make sounds as communication such as ooo, and ahh,
Petey also made friends along the way but they never stayed long enough so Petey became friends
with the mice that slept in his bed.
Does Petey ever have a friend or a loved one that will stay with him or will they all leave him?
Will Petey ever get to see the outside and get the chance to fell normal? How long will it take Petey
to fill loved?
