The Terrorist by Caroline B. Cooney

When 11 year old Billy is killed by a package bomb, 16 year old sister Laura wants nothing more than revenge. She and her family used to live in America, and only moved to London because of her father’s work. And Laura refuses to go home until she finds his killer. But like any 16 year old girl, she can't help but get sidetracked. She suspects everyone, even her friends. She makes lists, and lists of her lists. Trying to solve Billy’s murder is much more complicated then she thinks when she realizes just how many different types of people there are in London. There are people from all over the world. And many people whose country hates hers. She can’t help but wonder if someone killed her brother simply because he was and American. But she can’t accept that. She wants his death to mean something.
Anything.

Everything around her reminds her of Billy. The bricks down the street, the new foods, and even the old American ones. Billy had tried to make a living selling Oreo's and Kraft Mac and Cheese. He even wrote a letter to the company asking if he could be the first official sells man for the Kraft company in London. Even one of her new friends, Jerhan. Jerhan is 16 like Laura except for the fact that she is crazy rich. She has a small thin frame, and except for her long, thick hair, could pass for a guy. So when Jerhan asks Laura is she can have Billy’s passport to flee, Laura can’t help but say yes. But Jerhan can’t get to America by herself. She will need Laura to help her to get into the country. So Laura and Jerhan make a plan. Laura will take some money from Jerhan and buy to round trip tickets to America. Then Laura will by herself a single one way ticket back to London. They will say that they are going to visits their Grandmother in New York. Then Laura will throw away her ticket back, and use her one way ticket to come back that night. They will tell their parents, who don’t know about any of their plans, that they are going on a trip with the London Walk Club. But leave the station and go to the airport.

But it isn’t until they reach the airport that Laura pieces together the puzzle. She begins to realize just what her friend has done to get this passport. And how Laura herself had almost helped the killer. But is it too late to stop her from getting on the plane?
