     Halo First Strike is the aftermath of Halo The Flood. In this book John or Master chief is inside of the black hawk and is looking for anything that will allow him to survive in the depths of space. While searching for something of use he spots a human pelican landing on the dark side of a small moon. He sends out a distress call and the pelican answers. The Chief and his AI or Artificial Intelligence, Cortana pilot the black hawk toward the pelican.
     When the Chief and Cortana open the hatch to get everybody from the pelican to the black hawk Chief notices an old friend. John immediately points the barrel of his pistol at the man. The man's name is sergeant Johnson Chief saw a recording of Johnson getting killed by an evil animal called the flood. The flood is a species that infects the body of the host and transforms it into something else. Johnson was the only person who could have survived that. Cortana explained that he only survived because of overexposure to plasma. The flood found a disliking to his already infected blood.
      In the end the Chief and three other Spartans destroy a covenant space base and successfully destroy hundreds of covenant battle cruisers. Then Admiral Stanforth and an ODST (Orbital Drop Shock Trooper) Overload the reactors on a covenant cruiser and kill themselves, but they also killed hundreds more ships than the Chief and his Spartans.
