Si-cology Book review 4

Si-cology
By: Si Robertson
Book review 4
This book is about America’s favorite uncle, Si Robertson. In the beginning of the story Si says that his stories are 99% true threw out the story. The story mostly talks about is Si’s entire life. He talks about when he went hunting with his older brothers Phil, and Tommy. One of the strangest stories that Si told was when he was a kid and got a pet squirrel and his mom kicked it out when he burrowed inside of the new couch they just got.
He then starts to talk about his college life, and how he never wanted to go. Si mostly partied, then going to class and studying. When the college started having testing Si and his roommate decided to get soda and stay up studying. Si even tells that he and his roommate that they got drunk off all the soda that they had. When they started to do there tests, they got through most of them but at the last test Si fell asleep. He woke up and had 10 minutes to finish the test. So he then marked C for all of the answers. A few days later his older sister went to his dorm and was yelling at him, then his brothers Phil, and Tommy came in telling Si that he should have studied more. His sister then said that he had been the best in the class.
Si then decides to drop out of college, but shortly after he was drafted for the army. Si then went to the boot camp then was flown out to Vietnam. When he got off the plane he got some advice from some solders telling him not to go to battle. He and his troop had to stay in a hotel.        Si talks about how the squad got a got a new truck engine in a care package, but when Si and his buddy where on guard duty that night, they heard a noise over at the scrap yard. Si got on his radio and told the sniper tower to shoot a flare at the scrapes. They went over to check to see what that noise was, but they didn’t see anything.

They look at the lake and in the water where two Vietnamese soldiers caring the brand new truck engine threw the lake to their base across the lake. Si and his buddy just stood there watching them carry the engine across the water. Then the story talks about how Si listened to the stories of ether solders. One of the weirdest stories was from a medic. He was telling Si how he was in the jungle with two other solders and they were pinned down. Then one guy got shot and the medic put him up against a tree to patch him up. When he got done he left the guy who got shot against the tree to help the other guy defend them off. There was a screaming and when they looked over, a panther was dragging the guy who got shot. The medic and the other solder had to shoot at the panther to make him drop the solder. There is way more stories in the book, and I highly recommend it if someone wants to read a funny book and is a fan of Duck Dynasty.

The Giver
By: Lois Lowry
Jonas lives in a community of sameness, perfection, control, no fear, no pain, no emotion, no feelings and worst of all, no choices. Everything is different from life in the real world. The population is consistent, as an Elder I released, a newborn enters the community. People don’t get married, they get assigned a partner.  Couple’s don’t have children, they get assigned children. Children get receive assignments when they are a Twelve (twelve years old.) After Jonas gets assigned the “Receiver of Memory” the way he sees his world, or community, is now completely different.
As Jonas’s training begins for his new job he learns he is very unique. The old Receiver of Memory, or as he likes to be called, The Giver, gives Jonas the memories of the real world. Some memories are amazing like the love memory, colors and snow; some, aren’t so pretty like war, pain, death and loneliness. During one of Jonas’s training sessions he finally figures out what it means to be released, and it isn’t pretty. It’s actually quite disturbing.

Jonas soon learns that the little child, Gabe, who has been staying with his family has to be released because he hasn’t “developed” yet. Gabe is also unique, he too can receive memories. Jonas. He can’t let the horrible “release” happen to Gabe so, he has to save him! The Giver and Jonas make a plan for Jonas to flee the community and leave with all the memories. This means the community has to relive the memories so they can have them once again. Jonas’ plan to flee his community is a very dangerous one, he doesn’t know what’s out there. Will he survive?

Magic Johnson
Steven Frank
By Logan Hitz
Earvin “Magic” Johnson made himself one of basketballs most appealing performers through hard work, fundamentals, and court sense.
Magic Johnson grew up in Lansing Michigan. Johnson always wanted to go to Sexton High School. The High School is an all-black school. He was a phenomenal player. When he found out he couldn’t go to Sexton he was upset. He tried out for the basketball team and made it. At first Magic’s teammates wouldn’t pass him the ball. They were intimidated by him.
Magic attended college at Michigan State. Even though he was a 6’ 9” basketball player many thought he was going to be a forward or a center but his coach saw something else. His coach put him as a point guard.
Magic Johnson went on to the NBA to play for the Los Angeles Lakers. He led them to win a championship in 1985 with Kareem Abdul-Jabbar.

This book is for Basketball lovers. I really enjoyed this book.
