In cardboard, a boy and a father live on their own, poor, and barely able to support themselves. The boy’s name is cam, and the book starts on his birthday, with the father attempting to find work. On the way home, a peddler is selling cheap toys. His father attempts to bargain with the peddler, but in defeat, buys a cardboard box from him.
At home, cam and his dad build a cardboard boxer out of the card board. Later, it comes to life! They name him bill. They also made a thing out of cardboard that makes more of this special cardboard.

Meanwhile, a rich neighbor is jealous and steals the cardboard maker. He creates an army, but they turned against him. They start to destroy the entire town. Can they stop them? Or will the cardboard army overcome the humans? Read the graphic novel to find out.
