Messenger
By: Louis Lowery

Village is a community where everyone is welcome no matter what. If they are a cripple they are welcome, if they are “worthless” they are welcome, if they are just trying to start over again, they are welcome. Matty was a young boy when he came to Village. He was a thief, a crook and a little uneducated. With the help of Village and Seer, Christopher the man he lives with, he became an amazing, brave young man.
In Village, people are given jobs based on their talents. Matty wants to have the job, Messenger, because he makes dangerous trips through Forest to deliver messages to other communities. Forest, is of course a forest but it has the abilities to choose which people can pass through it. If Forest doesn’t want someone to pass through, he tortures them and eventually kills them. Matty has a connection with Forest, or so he thinks. He’s traveled through it many times without being harmed. While traveling through the Forest, Matty feels the Forest getting stronger, and more deadly.

Back at Village, the counsel there is not accepting any more people to come into their community. The people at Village are changing, they are becoming inconsiderate about other people, and they only care about themselves. Because Village is closing and will not allow anyone else to live there, Seer, will not be able to ever see his daughter again because she lives in another community. Matty is given the dangerous task to travel through the Forest and go get her before it’s too late. Will Matty be able to bring her back, or will he die trying?
