Face on the Milk Carton
By: Caroline B. Cooney
Janie
Johnson was a normal girl and was just having a normal day at school. But when
she looks on the back of the milk carton to see who the missing child is, she
discovers she is the missing girl in the photo. It comes to her as a shock. Could
her loving parents have kidnapped Janie? She just can’t believe it and wants to
refuse that her parents could ever have done such a thing.
But whatever
she does, she just can’t get it out of her mind. That’s all she ever thinks
about. Not only does she just think about it, but her thoughts start turning to
day mares. She can’t decide what to do about it.
One day,
when Janie was up in the attic, she finds a shirt made for a three year old.
She realizes the shirt was the same shirt on the milk carton. It has to have
been her! But she just doesn’t understand.
Later on,
Janie discovers she can actually talk to someone about the problem. Her next
door neighbor Reeve. She feels she can trust him, like they can trust each
other. She even finds that they become more than just friends. As their relationship gets stronger, so is
her desire to find out what happened. And it’s taking over her thoughts, as
well as her life.
Will Janie
ever find out the truth? She wonders that herself as she tries to discover who
she really is.
