Flight 116 is down
FLIGHT #116 IS DOWN
BY Caroline B. Cooney
In flight #116 is down Patrick Farquhar is a senior in high
school and he has a special job. He is a junior EMT (emergency medical
technician). He lives in a town in Connecticut named Nearing River. His dad Mr.
Farquhar is a fire man after being an EMT. Patrick’s mother had quit driving
Ambulance Squad after 14 years of taking one 12 hour shift a week and now she
is a dispatcher for 911.
Sixteen year old Heidi Landseth lives on and estate in the
Dove house. She goes to a private school because her parents are rich. Her parents
are gone and Heidi is home with Mrs. Camp, the house keeper, and Burk, the
grounds keeper.
Daniel, 15, and tuck, 13, are brothers who had to deal with
their parents divorcing. They were on their way to their fathers wedding. Their
dad is marrying a girl name Linda who the boys hate. They are going to the
wedding but they never promised to be nice.
Teddie is a 6 year old girl who has been with her
grandparents for a while. Before she left her gramma and poppy put a quarter on
her hand and put Mickey Mouse band aides around it. She is going back to be
with her parents. Her dad is obsessed with videotaping. They are planning on videotaping
Teddie when she sees her parents.
Darienne is a rude person. She thinks she is on top of the
world. She hates little kids. On the plane she has a magazine called Sports
Illustrated. Her neighbor on the plane had a Glamour magazine. She wanted it bad. She sits by Teddie.
At exactly 5:41:30P.M., a 747 air plane crashed by the
woods by Heidi’s house. Heidi ran out and was trying to save all the people.
She called 911 but it took a while for them to get there. Patrick heard it so
he drove as fast as he could so he could be the first one there. When Patrick
arrives he is in shock with the mess. He goes and helps out with getting the
people out of the plane wreckage and was getting them into the house.
When the fire dept. and ambulance crew got there they were
in awe as they looked upon the wreckage.
Flight 116 is down is a wonderful book. If you like action
books this is for you. At first the book was boring and then at chapter 5
everything got going. I would recommend this to everyone.

Freeze Tag
Freeze Tag
by: Caroline B. Cooney
Dark Fern Lane was home to Meghan
Moore. It was also home to Meghan’s best friend, Tuesday Trevor and her older
brother, West Trevor. Meghan ,like many, adored the whole Trevor family,
particularly West. But there was another Trevor admirer on the street, Lannie
Anveill.
Everyone
was afraid of Lannie, they didn't really know why. Maybe it was her thin bones and pale skin that
made her look like she belonged in a tomb. Or maybe it was her thin hair that
stuck out like hay, or maybe the way she would suddenly appear without a sound.
But there was something they hadn’t
known about her. Lannie had a power that allowed her to freeze people. And one
night Lannie froze Meghan and wouldn’t unfreeze her until West made a promise,
that he would always like Lannie best.
Now it is six years later and West
was in love, with Mehgan. But Lannie had not forgotten of West’s promise, and
she was going to make everyone pay.

The Roar by Emma
Clayton
The
Roar is an exciting book about a twin brother looking for his supposedly dead
sister. Mika hasn’t ever been outside The Wall, no one has. The Wall is 50 feet
high, 30 feet thick, covered with razor sharp electrified wire, and has laser
shooting Ghengis Borgs every couple of yards. The Wall is meant to protect the
people inside from the Animal Plague. The Animal Plague is a disease that
caused all animals to become crazy mindless killers, causing us to kill all
living things outside the wall with chemical bombs. Ever since Mika’s twin
sister Ellie was found dead Mika’s family has been torn apart. Mika refuses to
believe that Ellie is dead, and will not let his parents wash his sister’s
blankets because he thinks they still smell like her. When a woman from his
nightmares visits his school he is automatically suspicious of what she has to
say. She tells the class that they have to drink Fit Mix every day when they
get to class, that there is a new game they are going to play, and that they
are going to start a new fitness program. But Mika refuses and eventually is
expelled for seven days. During those seven days he meets with a counselor to
help him deal with the loss of Ellie. She ends up telling him that if he
cooperates with the YDF, the people that are making him drink the Fit Mix, that
he might just find his sister. So from then on he cooperates with the YDF so he
can find his sister. When he goes to the local arcade to play the game, he
finds he is a natural at it, and becomes a top player. So each day after school
he goes and practices the game. When a competition comes up he and his best
friend Audrey get past the first round of the game and win a vacation to an
island with fake trees and animals where they and their families get to stay
for a week. While they are there the remaining children have to do a set of
tests where they have to lift things with their minds and are told that they
are doing puzzles. Then for the rest of the vacation they play water games and
Mika accidently gets shot in the leg by a harpoon. They finally get to go home
for a couple of days, but then he goes to the final round and he wins it along
with five others. Since he was one of the winners he won a fancy new house for
him and his family. So he gets flown to his new house and all the winners and
their families have a party at his house. Then suddenly everybody who has a
child gets a message that their children have been taken to war by the YDF. A
mob of angry parents’ forms and everybody has to flee. Mika and Audrey have to
escape in a pod fighter over the wall and discover everything they have been
told is a lie. Finally they get back over the wall and Mika finally reunites
with his sister.

the Milk Carton
By:

Book Review
By: Sable Lynn
Nobody in Janie’s school really
paid attention to the missing children on the milk carton. Until one simple day
at school Janie decides to look... She sees something weird. She recognizes the
face of a little pigtailed little girl. The little girl had been kidnapped
twelve years before at a mall in New Jersey. Janie also noticed the shirt the
little girl was wearing. When she was little Janie had the same little white
collared shirt. Janie thought that it couldn’t be her.
Janie starts to think who are those
people in her house? Are they really her parents? Janie has to go back and try
to piece back together her childhood. All of Janie’s friends think that she is
crazy. Janie doesn’t know what to do. She starts to remember a woman from her
past. What if that’s her real mother. When Janie goes to sleep at night that’s
all she sees. Janie can’t believe that her loving parents kidnapped her, but as
she begins to piece things together, nothing makes sense.
Janie doesn’t want it to be true. She
didn’t want to think that she was kidnapped. She can’t seem to put the pieces
together. She’s not sure what to do. Every morning she wakes up all drenched in
sweat wondering whether it’s true or not. If it is, who are those people in her
house? Who is Janie Johnson? Who is her real mother?
Granny
Author: Anthony Horowitz
Review by: Daniel Hawley
Granny is a horror book by Horowitz. The
main character, Joe, is a rich kid, and his parents don’t really pay attention
to him. Joe himself isn't bratty, but just
like any other normal kid. He has a horrible grandmother, who basically is a
very evil woman who wants to ruin Joe’s life.
It starts with Christmas, when he asks his
grandma to get a robot. This particular one has to be assembled, but when
finished it could do a lot of things such as walk, and lift stuff and a lot of
other things, all controlled by a remote control. His grandma responds by
giving him a wind-up robot with a key in its back for seven year old kids. He is
humiliated and when he looks at his grandma, her eyes made her look as evil as
a hungry alligator.
It all goes downhill from there. As
he sees more of her, worse things happen. She makes him eat a whole bowl of
cream cheese (a disgusting version of it too). She steals the forks and knifes.
And worst of all, she blames it all on his nanny, who is his best friend.
She also killed his nanny too. Of course,
she makes it look like an accident. After the possessions were stolen, they
called the police to search their house. When the police got there, they had
two of the most vicious search dogs. They explained that they’d starved the
dogs to make them concentrate. On that note, granny ran inside. His nanny was
sitting on a bench propped up against the wall. Brow dust started to fall on
top of her. When she realized that it was gravy powder, she ran for her life as
the dogs bit at her heels. She dove into a bush and the dogs fell on top of
her. When the police finally dragged the dogs out of there, they were a lot
fatter than before, their heads drooped in shame. later on, Joe saw granny shuffling to the kitchen with a suspicious bottle And that was how evil granny is! There is a lot of other things that went
wrong too, because of granny.
The Face on the Milk Carton
Caroline B. Cooney
The
book “The Face on the Milk Carton” is about a girl named Janie Johnson that
thinks she lives her parents but soon comes to find out that she’s not and
hasn’t been for years. One day while Janie was sitting at the lunch table at
school she glanced down at her milk carton. And that was when her life changed
forever.
The milk
carton had a picture of a little girl that had been missing for years. The
little girl wore a nice polka dot dress with a white collar and her hair was in
tight pigtails. She read the details near the picture; the girl had been taken
from a mall in New Jersey years ago. Janie noticed that the little girl staring
up at her looked familiar- it was herself!!

The Ransom of Mercy Carter
By
Caroline B. Cooney
On February, 28, 1704, in Deerfield,
Massachusetts.
Mercy Carter tucked her brothers in, packing
them in close together. They looked funny snuggled in bed with most of their
clothes on, and quilts on top. Mercy
kissed each one goodnight. It was about -10 degrees and the cold was going
through both pairs of heavy wool stockings that she wore to bed. She dreaded
getting into her own bed, because she slept alone, and body heat would be the
only thing keeping anyone warm tonight. Mercy went over to the window and
looked out to the horizon; she always looked to the hill to the south. After she was done looking out the window she
shut and blocks it with a board. Sleep
did not come easy; she jerked upright straining to comprehend the night sounds.
Voices, the sharpening of knives? It’s just ice snapping off the river, Mercy
her older brother Sam said to her softly. After talking to Sam a little she
fell back asleep. She woke up again in a cold sweat after she had a dream that
an Indian had come in their house in the middle of the night and pulled Mercy
by the hair ready to scalp her. Mercy sat in her bed trying to overcome her
fears. Downstairs, one of the soldiers was doing something with the fire. She
heard the friendly clink of iron tools against brick. Did she also hear
movement beyond the shutter, or was that just the soft breathing of her
brothers? She felt her way to the window and opened it. The cold night wind
rushed by her giving her a chill. She leaned out to see, there was little light
then a house roof was on fire. Mercy realized that they were being attacked by
hundreds of Indian’s. Find out how Mercy and her family, with others get taken
by Indian’s and fight their way through winter to Canada. what will happen to them? Will they make it, and if they make it will they stay with the Indian's that killed people they knew and loved?

THE TERRORIST
The Terrorist
CAROLINE B. COONEY
Oh mom! Thought Billy, turning away from the stroller and wrapping himself around the package.
The package exploded.
Doing a review on my Read N' Rap, I start out with the main problem in the book. Billy dies... Yes, sad but true. When this young eleven year old boy who was social, friendly, and hyper dies from a package explosion, his older sister Laura is turned into a paranoid investigator. Which basically means shes trying to figure out who the killer is throughout the whole book, and thinks EVERYONE is suspicious.
Asking some questions, you probably wonder how Billy knew how to deal with this situation, well he learned to not accept packages from strangers, and that's exactly what he accidentally did.
Laura, Billy's sister, meets some new peers throughout the book also that might have to do with his death... You'll soon figure out how Laura's new best friend has to do with it. FYI, keep your friends close, but your enemies closer. This quote I think has a big meaning within this book. Just a hint ;)
The Ransom of Mercy Charter By Caroline B, Cooney
The Ransom of Mercy Charter
By Caroline B. Cooney
When I was reading this book it felt every weird and hard to
understand. There was a girl named Mercy Carter, who lives in Deerfield and
five other brothers and sisters. Mercy, brothers and parents settling in an
area, but they were kept in captivity. They can never go outside to the woods
or open fields. They could not leave the stockade cause by the soldiers and the
parents, so the kids won’t show the Indians where the kids live and the others.
The paragraph is when the Indians
attack Deerfield. The Indians were climbing up the stockade and killing the soldiers
and townsmen fought back at the Indians. It didn’t make sense to me cause it
almost felt like Mercy was dreaming. The entire book seems like Mercy was
dreaming. The Indians take Mercy and the prisoners out of the stockade, they
were taken to Canada. Will Mercy Survive the trip.

The
face on the milk cartoon
I was seven when it all began; I was in a store with my older
brother, my mother and my father. My brother was supposed to be watching me
when I through a fit throwing my body around, let go of my brothers hand, as he
says “Janie come back”. I kept running when I stopped to meet a nice lady who
took me under her wing as we ran away.
I’m 15 now, about to start drivers Ed but, my parents won’t
let me. All I think about is drivers Ed and getting my driver’s license. I tell
my parents all the kids at school have a driver’s license or at least going to
get there’s but all they say is “No, u can’t get yours” then they change to
topic before I ask why.
When I get to school I sit with my best friend and my boyfriend,
were talking about drivers Ed while eating lunch like normal. “I don’t see why
I can’t get my license my parents just won’t let me”.
“Why?” said Sarah- charlotte
“I don’t know but I will ask again later “I say on our way back to
class.
Later that day I’m sitting down to eat dinner when I ask again. My
dad snaps at me, I’m confused because my dad never higher his voice. Then my
mom says “we just don’t want you to grow up to fast”
“But mom I’m almost sixteen and everyone at school is in drivers
Ed?”
“Well good for them.” My mom says “but you’re not going to be”
says mom again. Getting frustrated with my parents I stop what I’m doing and
stomp down the hall way to my room and slam the door.
The next day at school I’m sitting with my friends again eating
lunch when everyone turns to the back of the milk cartoon (except me because I’m
lactose) to see the picture on the missing persons list today. Everyone on the
missing persons list has a picture of them when they were five years old. The
girl today on the list is wearing a blue and white dotted dress, she has red
curly hair, green eyes and is sitting up tall while looking at the camera like
there’s no care in the world. “I think to my-self “hey, that girl looks like
me, it is me, I have the same picture, that’s me’! I thought in my head. Then I
said out loud “that’s me”
“What?” asked Sarah-charlotte?
“The girl on the cartoon, that’s me.” I said
“No its not”
“Yeah, maybe it’s not “I thought
Is it her, do her friends believe her, who are her parents?” Many
confusion and many secrets but only one true answer.
