This book is a riveting story about Neil and his older sister Bree who move to there aunts house because of family issues. Neil and Bree's mother is sending them away so she can get help after she has a mental breakdown when there father leaves to pursue is "acting career," in California, all the way across the country.
But when Neil makes a new friend, he tells him about he legend of Nurse Janet, who just so happened to have murdered several young patients at the old mental hospital. When they decide to investigate, Bree and her new interest, Wesley's brother Eric wont let them go, alone. So the four of them head out to Greylock hall to investigate. But when Neil and Bree wonder off into one of the old patients room, something happens. And it ends up with Neil almost going through the floor.
Later on when the four of them go home, Neil and Bree are being haunted by something. When they are both having the same nightmares, all of which they end up drowning, Neil decides to further investigate. He and Wesley go back to Greylock and find some old records. One of which belongs to one of the patients that was found dead. Murdered even. But knowing Neil, he cant resist but look further. And it turns on him.
Will there home situations ever get better, or will they live with there Aunts for the rest of there lives. Will they ever be safe from the haunting? Will they find out who murdered that poor girl, and if they do will they be able to escape the clutches of the killer themselves?
