Smoke - Ellen Hopkins

Smoke

By: Ellen Hopkins

Two girls, one crime. The only question is who did it, and why? Pattyn and Jakie have a hard life. Their dad beats their mom and them and he is a complete drunkie. The only time he is sober is on holidays.

Pattyn sent herself away. Far, far away where no one would find her. She got some help from a girl named Adriana, who invited her into her family. Pattyn decided she needs a job so she can have some money. Adriana's cousin, Angel, has a job for a family and they needed another maid. So, Pattyn got the job and had her own little "house".

Jakie stayed and helped her mother with the kids. She felt useless. She was living in guilt. but why? All she need is someone to be there for her.
Will Jakie find who she is looking for? Will Pattyn ever come back? Is change always a good thing?

Read Burned before Smoke and find out.
