Francis was fourteen years old when he was captured on the Oregon trail by Pawnee Indians and later in the book he was the slave for them and the a one armed man saved him and he was Mr.Grimes. he told him that there was a horse and out of camp and he told him to get on here and ride as fast as he could away form there.
