This book starts when Professor
Otto Lidenbrock finds a mysterious piece of paper in an old book at the market.
The piece of paper is coded so he and his nephew Axel, the narrator of the story,
try to decipher the code. Finally while the professor is away Axel deciphers
the code. He finds out that the note tells how to find the center of the earth.
So they travel across the ocean to Iceland where they meet their faithful
Icelandic guide, Hans. From there they travel to Mt.Sneffles, an extinct
volcano. From there they travel up the mountain to a certain crater that has
three tunnels in it. Then they have to wait a couple of days for a sign to appear
and show them which tunnel to go through. Finally the sign appears and they start
down the tunnel. After weeks of traveling and many dangerous situations they
reach a huge underground cavern with a huge inland sea and mushroom forests.
Then they decide to try to travel across the inland sea. They are a couple days
out at sea when terrific battle takes place between to prehistoric sea
monsters! After hours of fighting
finally one of them kills the other and they manage to escape. Then a couple
days after the terrible battle they are shipwrecked on a strange shore. So
after they rest awhile the professor and his nephew go exploring and find the
entrance to the center of the earth. But unfortunately there is a huge rock
blocking their way so they have to blow it up. After they blow the rock up
things start happening very fast. Finally after a series of events they get
blown out a volcano on an island in the Mediterranean. Then they head home and
tell the world of their discoveries and become famous.
Sounds good. I'll have to read it sometime.
