In
Never Say Die, Nick Thrasher, a fifteen year old accomplished hunter, lives in
Aklavik, Canada. His grandfather Jonah is about to die from cancer. Nick goes
out to hunt a Caribou and comes back with nothing. After nick was done field
dressing the caribou he was on his way back to the boat when a bear came after
him. He had his rifle but when the bear hit him he lost the rifle and the
caribou meat. He ran as fast as he could to get to the boat.
When
nick gt to his grandfathers he explained to Jonah what happened. Nick described
the bear to Jonah. He said it had white fur on its belly and back like a polar
bear. He also said that the feet, head and legs were brown like a grizzly. Nick
talks to his friend that studies animals and they send DNA test to the States.
Nicks
mom is a nurse who is in schooling in another town. So Nick is living with his
aunt and his cousins. He gets a letter from Arizona from a guy named Ryan
Powers. Nicks name before it was thrasher was Powers. His dad had been an
explorer when his mom met him. They never got married because they were waiting
till he came back from an expedition. He was climbing a mountain when he died
so Nick took the name Thrasher. Nick got the letter from his half-brother Ryan.
It said he was going to come to Canada to ride down the Firth River and take
pictures for the National Geographic Magazine. Ryan asked nick to go.
The
day Ryan came, nick was nervous. He brought his gun but Ryan made him leave it
at the hotel they were staying at. Nick and Ryan got on a plane with a man
named Red. He was from the States and is one of the most known bush pilots in
Canada. He was going to fly them to the Firth River.
When
they were on the Firth River they saw a bear. Ryan was taking pictures of the
bear instead of watching where he was steering. They hit a part of the river
full of ice. They got separated.
With
no gun and no food will they survive? I thought
this was a really good book. This is for people that like adventure books.
