Heaven Eyes By David Almond People don’t believe us that we met Heaven Eyes. Me, (Erin) and my friends January and Mouse left Whitegates. January didn’t like mouse so we tried to leave really fast because he wanted to come with us on the raft. I didn’t want Mouse to come because I know that he would drowned if he needed to swim. January, Mouse and I traveled to the Black Middens and that is where we met Heaven eyes. People say Heaven Eyes isn’t real, but we know now for a fact that she is. We first saw her when we were sinking in the dark mud. I had to pull the raft to shore with January and Mouse on it because it was also starting to go under. Then I herd my mom call my name. She died but she is still with me and she told me to not give up and to keep going. Then I herd heavens voice. She said brothers and sister come here and I will keep you safe. My grandpa will come and take you to a safe and warm place before the water rises and comes and takes you. She had the prettiest blue eyes and webs on her feet and hands. We didn’t know if we would ever return to our place called home.
